Preston were formed in 1971, playing under the name Duke of York, they are the only surviving team who were founder members of the North West Women’s Football League. They were then known as Preston Rangers WFC and have been NWWRF League Champions on several occasions, and have also won the League Cup and Lancashire Cup respectively.
As Preston Rangers they reached two Women’s FA Cup semi-finals losing to St Helens and Fulham respectively. In 1998 they were promoted as Champions of the NWWRFL into the Northern Combination League. They became Champions of the Northern Combination League in 2005/06.
Preston North End were only the second team to achieve the ‘treble’ by winning all domestic trophies within the NWWRFL in 2002/03 season.
In 2009 PNE added a 3rd Senior Team, which will play in the County League and be used as a development team for young players stepping up to the Senior level of football.
